Stuffed Sausage Dogs (Cheese Stuffed Smoked Sausages)

Hot dogs. As American as apple pie and baseball. 
But there's always room for improvement. These cheese-stuffed smoked sausages are just a little more elegant, and just as delicious!

  • 8 bun sized smoked sausages Or any other bun length frank you prefer
  • 4 sticks string cheese
  • 8 hot dog buns


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 C).
  • Cut slits in sausages lengthwise from end to end, to form a pocket. (Do not cut through the sausage or cut the ends.) Place sausages on a baking sheet, cheese-side up.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (180 C) for 20 to 25 minutes, or until cheese is melted to your liking.
  • Place on buns, top with your favorite condiments, and enjoy!


Feel free to substitute your favorite sausages for the smoked sausage. This method would be incredible with other varieties as well. (Think chicken and apple stuffed sausages with a smoky cheddar or Italian style turkey sausages stuffed with mozzarella and a bit of marinara sauce and tomatoes. You really can't go wrong.)
