On traditions and getting settled

It’s a tradition for my wife and I that the first meal we have in a new home is take-out Chinese.  I’m not sure that my wife knew she was starting a tradition when we first did this, but it has become the norm now that we’ve moved several times, and is something we actually look forward to.  This move was no exception.

In the photo at the top of the page you will find our first night’s meal.  From left to right, Pork Lo-Mein, Broccoli Beef, Fried Rice, Broccoli Chicken and of course, more fried rice. (The Goldfish Crackers were for Mr. Seat of his Diaper, who has not grown an appreciation for take out at this point in his life.)

We’ve managed to get most things in place, though our bedroom is still unnavigable.  The main rooms of the home are all sitting at about 80% completed, with the office being on the “must finish” list for the day.  While I have made a few meals in the new house since we arrived, I still have no area to photograph them in that is free of some form of box sculptures or other packing materials, but I’m hoping that will be resolved by tonight.

I’ve been thinking up some really neat ideas to try on our far more heavily powered new stove, but events such as the refrigerator freezing over have kept my efforts at bay, and meals have been more of a “fend for yourself” affair over the past few evenings.  There will of course be something on the grill on Monday, hopefully in time to have the recipe posted that very day.

Thanks to everyone who has left kind words here and in email.  I’m doing my best to have things back up and running normally here in the very near future.
