And the winner is … Not me: Or how I failed to be the Next Food Blog Star

As you may have figured out by now, I am no longer a part of the FoodBuzz Project Food Blog competition.  I was not voted off, but failed to post an entry for round 3 “An Elegant Dinner Party”.  I could make a slew of excuses for this but in the end it came down to a few very simple factors.  Since I’ve had quite a few people asking why I didn’t make it, I’ll take a non-food moment to explain.

First, I was supposed to host an elegant dinner for 4 (including myself.)  This should not have been difficult.  At any other time in my life it would not have been difficult.  Unfortunately, I don’t have 3 friends here.

No.  Seriously.  I don’t.

I came back to this town for my kids.  I did not rekindle old friendships or reach out for new ones.  I never planned on being here more than the 15 months my wife would be gone.  I’m an acting single father of 3.  This doesn’t give me a lot of time to reach out anyway.  Usually I’m too busy to worry about doing much more than falling down exhausted at the end of the day.

Besides, throughout the time my wife has been away, I’ve had all of you to keep me sane.  You have been my social network and trust me, you’ve been far more supportive than I could have imagined.

Second.  The competition could not have come at a worse time for me.  The 15 months is nearly over.  It’s very close to the time when our family will be back together (as the Military permits, of course.)  My head simply isn’t in the game.  My focus is my wife, getting moved and settled into a new home; Hopefully in time to cook our own Thanksgiving dinner.  Everything else has taken a back seat to those things.

Well, everything but one.

For those of you who are planning to attend the Foodbuzz blogger Festival, I am too.  I’ve looked forward to it all year and as long as I can get registered in time, I’ll be there with bells on.  If you’ll be there, be sure to look me up, I’d love to meet you!

For this year I’m out of the running, but don’t count me out in the next competition.  If Foodbuzz holds the contest again next year, I’m in.  And I’ll be in it to win it :)

Good luck to the contestants moving forward this year.  I’ve got my favorites to win.  Do you?
